Task: To generate a report showing whether my company is software compliant.

To find out whether your company is compliant in terms of software licenses, use one of the Software Compliance reports. These reports only include products that your company's Administrator has defined as requiring a license.

On the Software License Compliance by Product report, a red icon is shown next to products if there are more copies installed than licenses entered in Purchase Details records. (A Purchase Detail relates to a piece of paper that authorizes use of a product and includes the number of licenses.)

As with all Web Control Center reports, you can display more detailed information by clicking on the highlighted entries in each column.

To generate this query, follow these steps:

  1. Use the reporting level control in the options panel on the left of the page to select which part of the organization you want to search on. (Only Organizational Units that your Web Control Center user account has access to are displayed in the drop-down list.)

  2. Click on the Software tab.

  3. Select the License compliance by product tile.

    The table shows licensable products installed in the Organizational Units that you have access to.

    For each entry the colored icon shows whether the product version is compliant. The five columns to the right show:

    • Total copies: Sum of Used and Unused columns.
    • Used: Number of installed copies that have been used (and installations for which it has not been possible to determine the usage).
    • Unused: Number of installed copies with a software usage of "Never".
    • Purchased: Total number of licenses available to the OU that you are reporting on. An empty column means that no Purchase Details are available.
    • Required: The number of licenses required to make the software compliant.

    At the far right, there are hyperlinks to view the usage of the software and detailed information from the Discovery.Portal.

  4. To see more details, click on a highlighted item.

    • To display detailed information about a product, click on the Product Name. The Product Details page shows general product information followed by a table listing all the relevant Purchase Details for the selected product.
    • To display the Purchase Details only, click on an entry in the Licenses column.
    • To see which machines a product is installed on, click on the number of Used, Unused or Total Copies.
